Boston Development Process Will Include Broadband Readiness

Boston redevelopmentMeasuring tech-forwardness in Boston building design will soon become part of the review process for newprojects and development areas. The City of Boston is the first city to work with WiredScore to integrate principles of broadband ready building design into the real estate development process, according to a Boston Planning & Development Agency (BPDA)press release.Mayor Marty Walsh recently announced a plan to see that new developments are working to serve residential and business broadband needs.

"In order for Boston to be an innovative and equitable city for all, we must ensure that all of our residents and businesses have access to reliable, fast, and, affordable broadband service," said Mayor Walsh. "I am proud of our nation-leading work with WiredScore, which will lead to further success in creating a city committed to advancing broadband and digital equity goals."

WiredScore has created the first international rating system allowing businesses to easily locate best-in-class office space buildings.

The City of Boston will incorporate aBroadband Ready Building Questionnaire into the review process in order to furtherits goal of connectivity forresidents, institutions, and businesses. The questionnaire allows to BPDA to provide industry best practices and language to developers.

Boston Redevelopment: Busy Transit Stations Hold Development Potential

Boston's Back Bay station#BostonRedevelopment #BostonRealEstateAmong some of the largest and most ambitious development plans on the horizon for Boston, three are anchored by major train stations.Plans to renovate andrevitalize North Station, South Station, and Back Bay Station couldturn these transportation hubs into attractive multi-use destinations, according to a Boston Globe article.The pairing of transit stations with developers could be awin-win situation. Thedevelopment projects would bring much needed cash to the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority in the form of necessarytransit improvements. At the same time, theygive the developers a ready audience of tens of thousands of daily commuters:

We think transportation hubs are an important part of the future office and residential, and really of any city, said Bryan Koop, the executive vice president at Boston Properties who is at the helm of the North Station and Back Bay projects. Its incredibly sensible to put density where you already have trains.
